History of T-shirts
No wardrobe is complete without the addition of a few t-shirts. Arguably the most popular item of clothing you can’t deny there is a T-shirt out there for everyone.
Today, we combine that timeless staple with modern screen printing Gold Coast technology to create custom tees built to last.
With new styles, cuts, colours and trends available, the T-Shirt can be seen anywhere from the tennis courts to the pub.
So where did the T-shirt come from?
The T-shirt is a relatively new addition to our wardrobe compared with many other pieces. Originally designed to be an undergarment, this slip-on item of clothing was issued to soldiers during the Spanish-American war in the early 1900’s.
Dubbed the T-shirt due to its resemblance to the letter T, many started to see the appeal of a lighter weight fabric in hotter weather, and thus started the T-shirt trend.
People saw the benefits of the T-shirt as a lightweight, inexpensive and comfortable addition to their wardrobe, but they were to become much, much more than this. The first printed T-shirt was featured on the cover of LIFE magazine in 1942, and the trend continues today.
In the 1960’s the modest T-shirt became a mode of self-expression, printed T-shirts gave people the chance to let others know their political beliefs, what they were protesting and anything that came to mind.
As the T-shirt evolved it came in a range of colours, cuts, styles and continued to grow in popularity. Coastal Expressions specialises in custom T-shirt printing.
